Gumdrop Squares
Recipe file created November 6, 1999. Pour the water out of the cake pan and immediately pour the jello mixture into the pan. When cool, refrigerate 3 hours until firm.
Cut into 1 inch squares. Set apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Chill for at least 8 hours. Once candy is dried, put some sugar in a bowl and roll the squares in it to coat all sides.
My young cousin used to make this all the time.
Fill a cake pan 1/2 way with cold water -- set aside. Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook 1 minute, stirring frequently.
NOTE:
My cousin used granulated sugar to roll the squares in. I prefer to use icing sugar. It's more like Turkish Delight that way.
NOTE2:
If you are using home made applesauce, put it in the blender or food processor for a minute. If there are any lumps of apple, they will absorb lots of gelatin and there will be very chewy bits in an otherrwise smooth textured treat.-- Rox
