Ingredients
Easy and inexpensive to make. We like to bake it and paint the pieces. We have made several picture frames this way.
Combine flour, salt, oil and food colouring in a bowl. Add boiling water and mix well. When you can no longer stir it easily, turn it onto a board and knead until smooth. Keeps for several months in a plastic bag. Do not freeze.
Dissolve salt in the water. Add food colouring and oil. Pour over the flour and mix well. The dough will be stiff. Knead it on a board until smooth. If, after kneading, the dough is still dry or crumbly, add a bit of water.
To dry the dough
Let stand at room temperature for 48 to 72 hours. Or, bake at 300 F for 1 hour. For very large pieces, standing at room temperature is recommended to prevent cracking.
If you plan to bake and decorate your dough, you do not need to add colouring.
Mix dry ingredients. Add oil and stir. Add water a little at a time. Stir until it holds together well. Knewad for 5 to 10 minutes. Divide dough into several pieces. Add food colouring a little at a time. Knead until each colour is evenly worked. Store in airtight containers.
